DESCRIPTION
I will be part of a yearly run organized by ACAMBI, (Asociación de Cáncer de Mama de Bizkaia)a non-profit association for breast cancer in Bilbao, that raises money for breast cancer research conducted by Dr. Maria del Mar Vivanco and her team. I will buy the t-shirt, number and pin contributing to the fundraising, then I will run the 5km route and finally I will be part of the organizers of the event, doing volunteering work like giving out the products of the sponsors.
PREDICTED LENGTH
The run will take place the morning of the 16th of October, 2016. I will arrive around 10:15, the run starts at 11 and I will probably stay there till 13:30.
CAS ELEMENTS INVOLVED
PERSONAL GOALS
First of all, I hope to complete the route jogging at a constant speed without stopping, to get a good workout. Because I and my two friends need to get back as soon as possible to serve drinks, we will only be completing about three fourths of the route. I hope to accomplish this in around half an hour, which is approximately the time the fastest runners take to run the entire route.
Second main goal:
My second goal is to contribute to the money raised for breast cancer research.
Third main goal:
To work diligently at the work I am assigned as a volunteer.
By running with time constraints and without stopping, as well as the fact that I am running together with five other classmates, will make sure I keep a good pace and get plenty of exercise.
Second main goal:
I will contribute to the fundraising by buying the t-shirt and race number, as well as a pin.
Third main goal:
My mother is Dr. Vivanco, so through her I, together with two friends of mine, were able to volunteer to be part of the “organizers” of the event. We will be assigned a job, probably giving out the products of the sponsor Kaiku or serving Coca-Cola, another sponsor, at a bar. I will get back from the run early, and serve until the last people cross the finish line. I am not sure how long this will take, but it will be a long time as there are families with pushchairs and children that walk the race.
I will know I accomplished this if I get back by the time the first few runners have arrived or are arriving. Also, if I feel that I have physically exerted myself.
Second main goal:
This goal is very simple to accomplish: I will know when I purchase and collect what I have bought.
Third main goal:
I will know I have accomplished this if I, together with the other volunteers, we serve the people efficiently.

REFLECTIONS:
BEFORE (Saturday 15 October 2016)
I am really looking forward to the run tomorrow. Although the run begins at 11am, I will be arriving at around 10:15 as my mother needs to be there early and my two friends and I will need to be indicated where, when and what work we will be doing. AFTER (afternoon of Sunday 16 October 2016)
It has been a really fun but really tiring morning! We didn't get back home till around 2 pm, after a long morning of both running and working at the bar. We got there at the planned time, and soon got instructions on where we had to be once we finished the run, and what we had to do, which was serve CocaCola to the people as they finished the run (CocaCola was one of the sponsors of the event). We were also given blue t-shirts, to distinguish us as part of the organization. The run began with the cutting of the rope by Dr. Vivanco, and we set of at quite a fast pace. I ran together with the two classmates that would join me later for service at the bar, as well as with three other classmates. This was fun as we got to share the experience together, and also helped me keep my pace up, as we all kept a similar fast speed throughout the run. It really was impressive to watch the swarm of people, like a wave of pink slowly moving its way along the bank of the river. It was an event to remember. When we got back to the starting point, red-faced and sweaty, we immediately went to our position behind the bar and began what would be more than an hour and a half on standing and pouring coke. This was tiring and repetitive, but at the same time interesting as I got to see each person that completed the race...there was an incredible mixture of old, young, men and women, and even some dogs with pink t-shirts on and babies in pushchairs! Overall it was a fun and entertaining experience, if not exhausting! I am already looking forward to it next year. |
