ACTIVITY SHORT DESCRIPTION:
This year I will be taking the exercise class called "Global Fitness" at the sports centre Fadura every Monday and Wednesday. The dance classes I had been taking for three years have had a change of schedule and focus, and I can no longer attend the class I wanted. This class, on the other hand, is one I got to attend a couple of times in December and April, as they organise classes separately from the usual during the holidays. I loved the class and the teacher's style and wanted to do more. It turned out perfectly well that dance was no longer possible, and so I got into this class. It involves full-body workouts, with great variety including warm-up, aerobic and zumba choreographies, step aerobics, strength exercises on the mat or using weights, body-weight exercises and resistance training, together with stretching at the end. I love how much exercise I get out of it, at the same time as being fun and varied, I never get bored.
I have put this CAS experience, as I did with dance class last year, together with cycling as I will continue to cycle to Fadura. My initial reason for doing this was because of the ethics of contributing to the sustainability of a natural environment and reducing my carbon footprint, but it also adds on another (approximate) 25 minutes to my workout.
PREDICTED LENGTH OF ACTIVITY
The one hour classes take place every Monday and Wednesday for 9 months, October to June.

CAS ELEMENTS INVOLVED
- ACTIVITY
PERSONAL GOALS FOR THE ACTIVITY:
- What do I hope to accomplish?
- How does what I'm doing help to accomplish the stated objectives?
- How will I know if I've achieved my objectives or not?
ANTICIPATED LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- (Learning outcome #1): Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
- I consider myself quite a sporty person, and thanks to dance and others sports and activities I have certain strengths in flexibility, speed, coordination, memory, sense of rhythm, strength, resistance, balance and motivation. I know from previous years that I am stronger in some areas than in others, so I will have to continue putting in maximum effort to maintain and grow where I am weaker. These classes are rather different from my main activity for the past three years, dance, as it involves a combination of different fitness exercises, and I hope to grow in those areas.
- (Learning outcome #4): Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
- This is a long-term experience which I will be attending twice a week for 9 months, so I will need to stay committed to it. I never miss classes unless there are unavoidable reasons (I am away from home, very ill or have to attend an important event). It also takes commitment to maintain my cycling to the centre (see next learning outocome).
- (Learning outcome #7): Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
- By cycling to the sports centre instead of taking the bus or getting a lift by car, I have considered the ethics of contributing to the sustainability of a natural environment and reducing my carbon footprint. This is not easy to keep up in the winter months, but I have been doing so for over a year and I will keep this commitment unless I am ill or the weather truly does not allow cycling.
