ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:
For carnival this year my friends and I decided to DIY our outfits for the costume party. We dressed up as american football players with matching t-shirts, braids and football socks. We thought it would be fun to actually "make" or decorate the t-shirts ourselves. PREDICTED LENGTH OF ACTIVITY: Two afternoon/evenings, the 24th and 25th of February 2017. CAS ELEMENTS INVOLVED: Creativity PERSONAL GOALS: Quite simply to work together with my friends to decorate the t-shirts. We've never done something like this before, but we will each use our different skills and it should turn out nicely. My job will be the measuring and drawing of the numbers to create a stencil to later add paint on top. It is important that I don't mess up, because that would spoil not only my costume but the one's of my friends. ANTICIPATED LEARNING OUTCOMES:
REFLECTIONS:Before ( Friday 24th February)
This evening we will be going to the shopping centre to look for the materials we will need for the costume. We are still slightly uncertain about what exactly we will be buying, but I hope we manage to find what we want. Ideally, we will find t-shirts in the shapes, colours and sizes we want. Also, we cannot take too long because we need to make them today for the paint to dry by Saturday. After (Sunday 26th February) On Friday we had a good shop, getting what each of us wanted. Three of us bought maroon t-shirts to wear with jeans, and the other two bought very long black t-shirts to wear as dresses. We also bought football socks to complete the outfit. When we got home we had to get to work quite quickly, dividing up to measure and cut t-shirts or design, trace, cut, stencil and paint the numbers. We worked really well as a team, getting it done efficiently, and enjoying it with music on. I am really glad we had the foresight to get it done on Friday so that the numbers would have a night and day to dry, because that acrylic paint really needed all those hours! Finally, Saturday evening arrived and we came together to get ready for the party. It was really fun to put on the costumes we had "designed/made", together with the final touches: trainers, braids for those of us with long hair, and two black stripes on each cheek. I love carnival because it is so fun (and often funny) to see everyone dressed up. Our costume wasn't anything out of this world, but it was recognisable and very comfortable for dancing in. I can't wait for next year! |
