I wanted this blog page to serve as a sort of portfolio for my photography. I have been taking pictures for years, but it was only recently that I took the time to carefully look through my gallery, searching for my best work and putting together a series. At the moment, I have kept the photographs within the broad theme of nature. I feel that a great part of my generation, including myself, is centred on photos of themselves and their friends, as on social media we post the pictures that show us at our best, or doing things that make us happy or are exciting or attractive. My phone gallery, however, has plenty of beautiful pictures that I never post. Some may seem a bit boring, just landscapes, or plants, or animals...but I appreciate the colours, shapes and movement in the pictures and how they capture ephemeral scenes of nature. It may seem to us that a certain mountain or tree will always be there, that there will always be waves in the ocean, stones in the river, plants growing...but nature is constantly changing, moving, breathing and evolving. I attempt to keep the small moments of nature's beauty that I experience in these photographs.
I believe that the value of this CAS creative experience lies in the images themselves. Rather than waffling about each image, I am happy to let them show for themselves how I am achieving the learning outcome of developing my photography skills, which was initially a challenge and an area for growth but is eventually becoming a strength. I am also showing commitment and perseverance, as I have been taking photos continuously, and will certainly continue to do so after completing CAS!
The photographs are all taken with a mobile phone camera, and are all, with a couple of exceptions, unedited, as I wanted to show their true colours. Speaking of which, I have organised them in such a way that each row, and sometimes two or multiple rows, share a common aesthetic, usually by colour palette, tone, subject or location.
This is an ongoing experience which I will add to as I continue to explore and photograph my surroundings.
